Yale University, Ingalls Rink

Known as "The Whale" because of its unique shape, Ingalls Rink was created by renowned architect Eero Saarinen and constructed in 1957. Yale University selected Petra Construction to repair the building envelope of this architecturally significant building. The work performed included masonry repairs and concrete restoration at the spine, roof patching and repairs, new copper flashings, and repainting of the steel components at either entrance. Additionally, at the interior side of the spine, wood members below the roof battens were structurally refastened, and the masonry was cleaned from the north to the south entrance. Work was completed during the summer months to have the least impact on activity. Petra worked with the Facilities Department to make sure that the rink, scoreboard, netting, and main flags were protected from any damage.
